In today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical and security environment, satellite communication providers are increasingly required to respond to urgent defence needs while maintaining commercially viable business models. Ministries of Defence (MoDs) are demanding cutting-edge, sovereign SATCOM capabilities—such as solutions enabling Multi-Domain Operations—on unprecedented timelines.
This workshop explores the potential of dual-use SATCOM applications by identifying both military and civilian uses of space-based assets. It also examines how industrial capability can be accelerated through demand-driven innovation, while addressing challenges related to military cooperation among allies.
Key focus areas include:
• Advantages and disadvantages of dual-use applications
• Scaling industrial capacity to meet defence and civilian demand
• Short- and long-term vision for SATCOM capabilities
• Cooperation with allies and European partners towards NATO objectives
• Supply-chain resilience and prevention of market monopolies
• Development of realistic and sustainable business cases
