Rinus has a background in applied physics. He started in particle physics but moved to the more tangible world of surface water 28 years ago and has not regretted it for a day. His primary field of work has been on innovation of monitoring and measurements strategies in surface water. At present he coordinates of small group of satellite data experts at Rijkswaterstaat. The task of this group is to (help) implement satellite data in the daily work of Rijkswaterstaat. The present focus of this group is to measure the deformation of infrastructure. This helps Rijkswaterstaat to prioritize the huge task it has in replacing older infrastructure.
