Crista Huisman is Deputy Head of the Space Division at the European External Action Service (EEAS), working on the security and defence dimensions of space. She contributes to the implementation of the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence and cooperation with partners such as NATO and United Nations. She also supports the High Representative/Vice-President in her responsibilities related to the European Union Satellite Centre (SatCen).
Prior to focusing on space, Crista held senior roles across EU peace, security and defence. She chaired the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), steered the implementation of the Civilian CSDP Compacts (2018, 2023), and contributed to key EU strategic frameworks, including the Strategic Compass and the EU preparedness strategy.
Her earlier career includes extensive experience in conflict-affected environments, notably in Ukraine and Georgia, where she held senior management functions in EU missions in complex security contexts.
