Dr. Andreea Calcan is Officer in Charge of the UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), where she also serves as its Methane Science Studies Manager. In this capacity, she leads UNEP’s global portfolio of data-driven methane work that underpins evidence-based climate action.

With over twenty years of experience, Andreea has directed large-scale, multi-million-dollar scientific campaigns across airborne research, cloud physics, and satellite calibration and validation. She has worked in close partnership with leading institutions, including the European Space Agency and the Romanian Space Agency.

Prior to joining UNEP, Andreea coordinated Europe’s largest methane science study to date—a landmark effort bringing together 13 research teams from 20 countries to survey emissions in Europe’s second-largest oil and gas-producing nation.

She holds a PhD in Physics and an MSc in Optics, Spectroscopy and Lasers from the University of Bucharest, Romania.
