Ivan Kulis is Head of Unit for Nature Conservation and Observations at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. He is responsible for the coordination and development of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service, the European Commission’s Knowledge Centre on Earth Observation and the European Commission’s Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity.

In this role, he oversees activities supporting evidence-based policymaking in the areas of environmental monitoring, biodiversity, and sustainability, ensuring the effective integration of scientific knowledge into EU policies. His work focuses on strengthening the science–policy interface, fostering partnerships, and promoting the use of Earth observation data to support European and global environmental objectives.

He holds academic degrees in economics and literature and has professional experience in knowledge management and science-to-policy support.
