Richard Engelen is the Deputy Director of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). In this role he closely supports the Director of CAMS with the scientific and technical management of the CAMS programme. As part of his responsibilities, he coordinates the development and implementation of a European operational observing capacity to monitor anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions within the CAMS programme, working closely with the European Commission, ESA, and EUMETSAT.
Richard received his PhD from Utrecht University in 1996, then worked at Colorado State University, before joining ECMWF in 2002. He now uses his strong expertise in modelling and data assimilation of atmospheric composition to facilitate the transition of science into user-driven services as part of the European Commission’s Copernicus programme.
