Aaldert van Amerongen is the Head of Earth Observation at the Space Research Organisation Netherlands, where he oversees pioneering research that advances our ability to monitor the Earth’s climate and environment from space. With over 20 years of experience in advanced instrumentation for quantum physics and Earth observation, he has contributed to technologies enabling high-precision atmospheric measurements from orbit. Under his leadership, SRON has delivered scientific breakthroughs ranging from greenhouse-gas sensing and aerosol retrievals to methane super-emitter detection and ecosystem change monitoring. His group made a shift to climate action through partnerships with the United Nations, the European Union, the World Bank, and private parties to promote mitigation of greenhouse-gas emissions through satellite-based intelligence.
